As the title-track for our second album CHAOS, this song was intended to capture the struggle of all the internal and external chaos reflected upon in the other songs on the same album. Musically, CHAOS is at heart more of an ambient and prog-metal inspired song. We wanted to experiment a little bit, though, so you can also hear elements of genres such as post-rock and even nu-metal here.
Lyrically, this is probably one of our vaguer songs, but that is simply because chaos differs from person to person. Each of us have our personal struggles, and we are also affected by the struggles of the communities and countries we live in, as well as the world in general. You can think of these lyrics as being about the “human condition”, and the lyrics are meant to be interpreted by each listener, to cope with whatever chaos they are currently battling, or maybe even appreciating. The haunting and repeating line “We die as one”, signifies how we are all connected, no matter how much we despise or hate each other, and in the end, our fates are the same. In this CHAOS of life, we live and die as one.
Melodically, THE PROMISE is us going back to our roots. With more of an old school vibe, this song is sure to please fans of 80’s and 90’s Rock and Metal.
Lyrically, the song is once again quite personal. This song is about overcoming addiction, and bettering yourself for the ones you love. It’s about self-hatred, and self improvement. More than all of that, though, it is about determination.
Heavily inspired by the life and death of Aleksej Navalnyj, “MARTYR” is about a leader, trying to rid his country from corruption and oppression. No matter what cost, this leader fights for a better life for his people, even it costs him his life.
The music is melancholic, yet hard-hitting and epic. We are so proud of this song, and believe to be our best work yet. The lyrics explain the constant battle for justice and freedom, and the sacrifices made to reach it.
As Søren Kierkegaard said: “The tyrant dies, and his reign is over. The martyr dies, and his reign begins.”
FREE is a Rock/Metal anthem with a catchy bass-driven melody, and a classic rock flavor. This song really shows of our brilliant bass-player, Fredrik. Although the song has a bit of an upbeat vibe, mimicking that of more 80’s and stadium rock music, the lyrics are a lot more serious. Heavily inspired by ongoing wars, and history repeating itself, FREE is sung from the viewpoint of someone watching their world being turned upside down, disgusted and frightened by the fact that we never seem to learn, and always seem to be fighting to be free.
This song is meant as a salute to the brave people fighting for freedom and democracy, and against their oppressors. None of us in Chain Home have had any experience remotely resembling the awful wars going on in the world at this point, and we cannot claim to know how it feels, but we hope this song can bring even the slightest support and comfort to victims of these current events.
BURN is a straight forward, unapologetic modern thrash metal song, with elements of drum and bass. It is meant to be direct and aggressive, and give a sort of a “heat of the moment” vibe.
The lyrics are written to represent someone who sees their world go up in flames (literally and figuratively), and has lost all faith in humanity. It’s written about many different relevant world events, such as wars, climate change and corruption in politics. It is quite a dark song both musically and lyrically, and is not meant to be suiting or reassuring, but rather a song you can scream and mosh to. It is in many ways a “venting” song. It is also a kick ass song to start of a live metal set.
